Teeth Teeth and more Teeth!

Tyler now has 3 of his 4 first year molars. He still is missing the second teeth on both sides on the bottom (which he is actually behind on - the rest he is within the normal range) The most recent molar arrived with a cold. He wasn't a happy camper with his runny nose - more so Mommy wiping his runny nose. He's been drooling like a fiend, so I had to dig out all the drool bibs that I thought I was done with!

He had his 15 month check-up on Monday morning. He only gained a half inch in 3 months to 30.5 inches. He gained 2.5 pounds up to 27lbs 12oz. He is in the 95% for his weight and something like the 20-25% for his height. So he's short and chubby, but terribly cute (mommy-biased!) We switched him to 2% milk since the pediatrician said that if there's any obesity or high cholesterol in the family that the American Society of Pediatricians recommend switching from whole milk before the 2nd birthday. We figured that we don't really have either in the family genes, but Tyler obviously isn't needing the extra fat so much - so we switched him.

We spent the weekend back home visiting the family and getting to see my cousin, Jim, and his family from Florida. I had been 4 years since I saw them last and the kids grew up fast! It seemed Alexis and Matthew enjoyed their brief stay in the country - especially with the Odyssey!

On the way home in the car, Tyler added another word to his vocabulary - Tickle. I was tickling his foot and saying "tickle tickle tickle" and just repeated "tickle" back. He kept saying it and it merged into the word "giggle" and then into some nonsense babble. I also believe he said Alex's form of "Tyler", which is "Iler". Alex said it around him and Tyler repeated it, so I'm going to have to work on him saying his name. I think he is trying to say lots of words, but I can't pick up everything, so I'll be interesting once his words get a little more articulate.

Spooktacular!

This past Sunday evening, we took Tyler on his first haunted hay ride. It was put on by the local VFW out in the sticks where we live. We went for the "hay ride" part and not the "haunted" part. We thought Tyler would enjoy going for a ride. We took him because we figured that he would be too young to be scared and we were right. He just looked around and the "monsters" would just come up to him and tickle his side. I don't think he knew what to think. While we were waiting for the tractor to pick us up, he was having a ball running around the pavillion where they had refreshments set up. Josh ended up getting him a little gummy thing and he seemed to love it. Well, it also set him on a sugar high and he was just non-stop. At least he settled down when it was time for the ride!

Daddy Doggie Daisy...

Those are Tyler's favorite words right now, but they don't always come out exactly right. It sometimes takes him a few tries to have it come out as a word instead of gibberish, but it's darn cute either way. When I try to get him to say "mama" or "mommy" he just keeps saying "dada" or "daDEE" or "dawDEE". He's being subborn, but at least he's enjoying the wonderful world of talking. The words we've caught him saying now include, "Daddy" "Daisy" "Mommy" "juice" and "uh oh". He can show you where his nose, belly, and ears are. We're working on other body parts.

I recently got the perfect size box from a delivery and Tyler just loves playing in it. He hides himself in there and then when you say "where's Tyler" he pops it open and giggles so hard. It's hilarious. I think we'll wrap one up for him for christmas :-)

This week, he went for a visit to Grandma and Grandpa Basinger's house while Daddy was away for work. He spent a couple evenings playing with Cousin Alex and had a blast. Alex is big on giving hugs and kisses, so Tyler got quite a few from him! It was monkey see-monkey do both evenings. When one would do something, the other would want to do it too, including sitting in front of the gate to the stairs and banging their heads on it while drinking juice. Little boys can be pretty silly!

Fun at the Pumpkin Farm

Today we went to the pumpkin farm just a few miles away from the house to pick out a couple pumpkins for decoration. We dressed Tyler in his halloween costume and tried to take some pictures of him amonst the pumpkins. We got a few, but not the cute smiley ones I was hoping for. He was too busy trying to get to the tractor that was there and chasing the chickens that were running around. I ended up with a couple medium-sized pumpkins to put on the front porch which we'll carve when it gets closer to halloween. More pictures on our photo website: http://hoblet.phanfare.com/

Case of the diaper rash... or teeth... or both!

Yesterday was a lot of fun... Tyler woke up late (9:30am yea!) but that "yea" was short-lived. I went to change his diaper and he must have pooed during the night because half of it was dried and stuck to his poor butt and underneath was some pretty nasty diaper rash. He wasn't too happy with me cleaning him up. He didn't want to eat anything for breakfast, so I thought his teeth must be bothering him. I did notice that his gums on the one side were a little swollen the night before. SO, I gave him some Tylenol and some milk. Well, after an hour, he was still crying, so I gave him Motrin. When that kicked in, he was better. I tried to give him something to eat again, and he wanted nothing to do with it and started crying again. So I gave up and gave him something to drink. He took a nice nap in the afternoon and woke up like nothing ever happened. He ate dinner and had a snack in the evening. SO - I don't know exactly what that was all about!

Today when I dropped him off at the sitter's, he just ran into the other room to play and didn't even look back. He was crying every day when I leave him for the past couple months. It only would last a few minutes, but today- nothing. I was actually slightly upset about it - like my little baby didn't care that I was leaving him for the day. I guess he's just growing up and starting to get out of the separation anxiety phase.

I'm currently on the hunt for shoes for Tyler. I measured his foot with the help of the at-home measuring tool on the stride rite website. I confirmed what I suspected: Tyler has wide feet. Actually, it's more like fat feet, but regardless, normal shoes are hard for him to wear. I have discovered that it is hard to find an inexpensive pair of wide shoes, so I may end up buying them from zappos.com or the stride rite store. I don't think I can keep wearing his fake crocs on him all winter long! His toes might get a little cold!
